The preservation of audio in the pre-digital age was haphazard at best. Even so, Michael Lee and Rebecca McInroy, who produce KUT’s Sonic ID project, have uncovered Allen Ginsberg singing the poetry of William Blake, a long lost live performance of Townes Van Zandt, a singing intro to the Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, and KUT founder Bob Schenkkan introducing a broadcast lecture – which is KUT’s earliest surviving recording. You’ll hear memories from KUT’s long time music hosts, some of our favorite Sonic ID’s and a few surprises as well.

His pieces, “KUT Over the Years: How a Little Station (and its Aura) Grew”, “50 Years of Not Playing the Hits” and “The On-Air Personalities Behind the Music” ran as companion pieces together with a photo slideshow.

World Have Your Say is a BBC News discussion program where people around the world set the agenda. They use all technology possible to make the program open and indicative of as many contributors as they can.

KUT staff hosted two of the live broadcasts from the historic ACL Studios and invited listeners to contribute both days. Our dedicated Central Texan listeners and thinkers joined an international cast of callers and writers, making the broadcast a one in a million experience for all involved.
